For their new foundation office, the axioms of outreach and community engagement were at the heart of our commission. The purpose of this space was to provide transparency to the neighborhood and support the presidential library construction efforts.
Designed simply and economically with public and private zones, each area was created to be flexible and serve specific requirements.
As an organization that fosters individual growth and development, the Obama Foundation sought opportunities to involve the community in the construction. To achieve this goal we designed the touchdown meeting area of off-the-shelf plywood material. These rooms were then constructed by the Sweet Water Foundation, a regenerative neighborhood development organization that trains and cultivates skills and careers in art, design+build projects, carpentry, sustainability, and agriculture.
