McCormick Place Event Center

Chicago, IL

Invited to participate as a finalist in an International Design Competition, K+S designed this Event Center, proposed to be a mixed-use venue. The stadium would be an anchor in the development of the McCormick Entertainment District and be the home court of The DePaul Blue Demons NCAA team under a public-private partnership between DePaul University and the City of Chicago.

The arena included 22 suites associated with an arena club which was to be open 7 days per week. The arena will also serve as a mid-market concert venue for show capacity between 5000 seats and 18,000 seats and also double as meeting and convention space. Connected to McCormick Place by an enclosed pedestrian bridge at the arena main concourse level the center was configured to match the McCormick Concourse Level - both 18 feet above street level.

In addition to the arena, the center included a 500-room hotel with 60,000-SF Conference Center and Ballroom. Our design solution offered a major landscape garden, creating a Gateway to McCormick Place, as well as a welcoming event gathering space and community oasis while respecting the residential neighborhood scale and street-scape.
