Eisenhower Memorial Competition

Washington, DC

Our team was one of four finalists in a multistage, national design competition for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial in Washington DC. The brief targeted an inspiring solution that distills the essence of Eisenhower’s life and legacy while creating a new paradigm of 21st Century memorialization in the urban context just blocks away from the National Mall and in direct view of the US Capitol.

The site is conceived as Eisenhower Peace Park. Together with the porch, this public landscape forms a cohesive urban square. Playing children, sitting adults, and exploring visitors come together in this urban oasis and are invited to reflect, celebrate, and learn.

Sustainability practices prevail in the design: reuse of stormwater, treatment of collected fountain water, engineered planting soils using composted yard waste, biological benchmarks and soil volume thresholds for healthy plant growth.
